BRONX - Monroe University - Bronx men's soccer star Jason Chunchi has signed with Ponce FC, an association football club based in Puerto Rico. Ponce FC competes in the Liga Puerto Rico Pro League.

Chunchi had a strong season for the Express. The phenom midfielder was named to the All-Region first team and set the program's single-season assists record with 12. He netted a goal in Monroe's 2-0 Region 15 road playoff win over nationally ranked No. 10 Nassau Community College back on October 25. The Ossining, N.Y. resident scored six goals and had 24 points in 2025. He was the recipient of the Express Men's Soccer Most Outstanding Player Award at the department's awards lunch on April 9.

"Jason came in as a freshman and made an immediate impact on our program," Express Men's Soccer Head Coach Jose Hernandez said. "Breaking our single-season records for assists and minutes played (1,153 minutes) is an incredible accomplishment, but what stood out the most was his work ethic and consistency every day. He earned our coaching staff's Most Outstanding Player of the Year Award because of everything he brought to the team, on and off the field. Seeing him sign his first professional contract with Ponce FC in Puerto Rico makes me incredibly happy and excited to see what the future holds for him. He's such a talented player and an even better person, and I have no doubt he'll continue to do great things. We're all proud of him and can't wait to follow his journey."

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
