Jose Hernandez

After a very successful season as interim head coach of the Monroe University - Bronx Express men's soccer program, Jose Hernandez was promoted to head coach in January of 2024. Prior to his year as interim head coach, Hernandez served as the assistant and goalkeeping coach for the Express.

During Hernandez's season as interim head coach for Monroe - Bronx in 2023, the Express qualified for the Region 15 Postseason and went 6-6-1 overall, including 6-5-1 against regional opponents during the regular season. He mentored Lorenz Utz who earned a spot on the All-Region 15 second team and Vitor de Oliveira who was bestowed with NJCAA Division III National Goalkeeper of the Week honors. 

In 2024, Hernandez led the Express to a 9-4-3 record, a No. 6 national ranking, and the third seed in the Region 15 Tournament with an 8-2-2 record against regional opponents. He coached Chrismonor Eugene who was named the NJCAA Division III Offensive Player of the Week and was selected to the All-Region 15 first team. Xcaret Gonzalez and Jonathan Lima landed on the All-Region first team and second team, respectively. Fourteen of his players were named to the 2024-25 Region 15 All-Academic team and Clermens Devariste was named to the 2024-25 Eastern Athletic Communications Association Academic Honor Roll. 

Hernandez takes great pride in his team excelling in academics. Three of his student-athletes were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District College Division At-Large team. Eight student-athletes were named to the Region 15 All-Academic team. Also, 13 student-athletes landed on the NJCAA All-Academic team, including 10 on the second team. The Express men's soccer team earned the NJCAA Academic Team Award twice.

As an assistant coach for Monroe – Bronx, Hernandez conducted practices with the players and goalkeepers, instructed game strategies, and performed various administrative duties. 
 
Hernandez played goalkeeper for Monroe Express during the 2021 spring season and the 2021 fall campaign, winning eight matches and earning three shutouts during his two-year playing career. He led the Express to their first ever Region 15 Championship and appearance in the NJCAA Division III National Tournament in the spring of 2021. He was also named All-Region 15 second team, the All-Region Academic team, the NJCAA All-Academic third team, and the All-Region 15 Sportsmanship team during his sophomore season in the 2021-22 academic year. During his rookie year the season prior, he was named to the NJCAA All-Academic first team and the Region 15 All-Academic team. 
 
In addition to coaching at Monroe – Bronx, Hernandez is currently the team coach, goalkeeper coach, and development program director for the Westchester Flames Youth Soccer Club. He is also the team coach and goalkeeper coach for Greenburgh United, and serves as the goalkeeper coach for the USL 2 Westchester Flames.

During the 2022-23 season, Hernandez led the S3A Soccer Club as its team coach.
 
Hernandez was an assistant coach for the WNY Soccer Recreation Organization from 2015 until 2018. While there, he helped kids develop their soccer skills.
 
Residing in Mount Kisco, N.Y., Hernandez earned his bachelor's degree in sports management from Monroe University in December of 2021.
