Monroe College has renovated the former ice rink at New Roc City into the Monroe Athletic Complex (MAC), a state-of-the-art athletic complex for students and the New Rochelle community. The centerpiece of the 45,000 square-foot arena is a 94-foot, wood-floor basketball court where the Monroe Express basketball and volleyball teams play their home games. The court was delivered to Monroe from US Cellular Arena in Milwaukee. The complex also houses a track, locker rooms, a trainer's room and seating for fans.
"Monroe College has first-class athletic teams and now we have a first-class facility in which to compete," said President Jerome. "We're equally excited that this new arena provides our students and the entire New Rochelle community with a new venue for recreation, fitness and entertainment, while contributing to the ongoing revival of the downtown area. We look forward to partnering with local businesses and community groups to make it an even more vibrant destination."
"Monroe's arena hosts sports and special events that will bring thousands of visitors to downtown New Rochelle, strengthening traffic for our restaurants and stores," said New Rochelle Business Improvement District President Ralph DiBart. "The BID looks forward to working with Monroe College to develop the arena as an important economic anchor serving the entire community."
Opened in January of 2011, the MAC is at 19 LeCount Place, across the street from the college's New Rochelle campus, which includes academic buildings, a renowned culinary arts program and dormitories for 750 students.
