BRONX – The fifth-seeded Monroe University – Bronx men's soccer team will battle top-seeded and nationally ranked No. 9 Suffolk County Community College in the Region 15 Semifinal round at Ammerman Campus Soccer Field on Wednesday afternoon. The contest will begin at 2 p.m.

The winner will compete in the Region 15 Championship match on Saturday afternoon against the winner of the #6-Seed Kingsborough Community College vs. #2-Seed Ulster County Community College semifinal matchup. The regional title game will take place on the campus of Nassau Community College.

Monroe (9-4-2) earned its spot in the semifinals by defeating the defending regional champions and nationally ranked No. 10 Nassau, 2-0, at Mitchel Athletic Complex last Saturday. Jonathan Lima and Jason Chunchi tallied the goals, while Kimany Arzu stopped all five shots he faced to earn the shutout victory in net.

Suffolk County (10-4-2) won its region first-round matchup on its home field over Dutchess Community College, 11-0, this past Saturday.

The Express and Sharks battled each other during the 2025 regular season on October 16, which resulted in a scoreless draw at Flowers Park.

These two teams met in last year's Region 15 Quarterfinal round on October 26, 2024 on Monroe's home field. The match officially ended in a 0-0 tie, but Suffolk County advanced to the next round thanks to penalty kicks.

Chunchi has six goals and 12 assists for Monroe this year. Brando Tuba has nine goals, while Salim Anas and Mamadou Top each have compiled seven goals. Anas has also registered four assists so far in 2025.

For Suffolk County, Jazai Kidd has tallied 12 goals and three helpers this season. Nicholas Rojas has provided nine goals and eight assists. Steven Vargas and Carlos Alay have also scored nine goals each with the former delivering five assists and the latter adding three providers.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
