Monroe Express Track And Field Impresses At Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J., February 20, 2022 –  Four athletes from the Monroe Express track and field team had an excellent day posting two top-ten finishes each at the Princeton Invitational hosted by Princeton University at Jadwin Gymnasium on Sunday. The Express were on the card for four events total, including the 200 meters for men and women.
 
Wayne Stephenson (Falmouth, Jamaica), Romar Scott (Whithorn, Jamaica), Danario Douglas (Prospect District Hanover, Jamaica), and Jeremiah Herbert (Queens Village, N.Y.) made the most of their opportunities on the day by racking up two top-ten finishes in two events each. In the 500m, Stephenson put up his best individual finish of the season, crossing the finish line with a career-best second-place finish, clocking in with a time of 1:08.16, while Scott and Herbert both came in two seconds behind in third and fourth with times of 1:09.21 and 1:11.00. Scott had an encore performance in the 800-meter, putting up a second straight third-place finish with a time of 2:01.74. DouglasStephenson, and Herbert followed behind to make it four Express runners in the top ten with seventh, ninth, and tenth place finishes with times of 2:05.27, 2:05.58, and 2:06.01.

Douglas registered his team-best fourth and fifth top ten finish of the season, also competing in the 200-meter where he recorded an eighth-place finish and a time of 23.26.

Angre Cattouse (Bronx, New York) laced it up in the 200-meters finishing 15th out of 20 runners with a time of 28.97.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 36 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports program, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 17 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
