Monroe Express Men’s Track and Field Kicks Off The Program’s First-Ever Season At The Wagner College Invitational

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y., January 7, 2022 – After waiting a year to kick off their inaugural season, the Monroe College Express men's track and field program finally got an opportunity to lace it up at the Wagner College Invitational at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Friday afternoon. 

The track events featured three entries for the Express in the 4 x 400 Relay where the foursome of Wayne Stephenson (Falmouth, Jamaica), Jeremiah Herbert (Queens Village, N.Y.), Taheim Richards (St. Kitts and Nevis), and Danario Douglas (Prospect District Hanover, Jamaica) produced the program's best showing on the afternoon combining to clock in at 3:27.89 for a sixth-place finish out of 17 that competed. 

Douglas also competed in the 400-meter dash on Friday, finishing in 52.25 seconds for a 14th place finish in the race.

Romar Scott (Whithorn, Jamaica), Stephenson, and Herbert all highlighted the card for Monroe-Bronx in the One Mile Run, as Scott led the charge with a time of 4:54.88 for a 35th place while Stephenson and Herbert followed after with times of 4:57.55 and 5:17.90.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 36 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports program, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 17 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
