Monroe Express Men's and Women's Track and Field Takes Second Place In The 4x400 Relay and 60 Meter Dash At The Ramapo Opener

NEW YORK, N.Y., January 21, 2022 – The Monroe Express track and field squad was up for the challenge against a profoundly competitive field on Friday at the New Balance T& F Center in New York, New York. The Express competed in men's and women's events for the first time on the season and were one of two junior colleges suiting up against perennial NCAA Tournament contenders.

Angre Cattouse (Bronx, New York) competed for the first time this season in the 60 meter hurdles and started off her Express career with a bang finishing second out of five runners with a time of 9:01.

The Men's 4x400 relay team of Wayne Stephenson (Falmouth, Jamaica), Danario Douglas (Prospect District Hanover, Jamaica), Jeremiah Herbert (Queens Village, N.Y.), and Romar Scott (Whithorn, Jamaica) led 15 other teams competing in the event until the final few feet of the finish line getting edged out by Ramapo's Cheickna Traore, a Division III 300M record-setter and NJAC Rookie of the Year. Monroe-Bronx clocked in at a new program-best 3:27.19 for a second-place finish despite the heartbreaking result. The Express made up a ton of ground quickly after a slow start to the race and proved that this team would be a force to be reckoned with every time they take their mark to compete.

Douglas also competed in the Men's 400 Meter dash and finished an impressive seventh out of 38 runners that competed with a time of 51.97, and Stephenson posted a ninth-place finish out of 25 runners with a time of 1:25.14.

Herbert and Scott also competed in the Men's 800 Meter and finished in 18th and 19th with times of 2:04.41 and 2:05.62. Cattouse also competed in the Women's 200 dash, where she finished with a time of 29.79.

The Express will ship up to Boston for two meets next week on Friday, January 28, and Saturday, January 29 in the John Thomas Terrier Classic at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center.
