David Spiegel Promoted to Director of Athletics

BRONX - The Monroe University - Bronx Athletics Department is proud to announce that David Spiegel has been promoted to Director of Athletics, effective June 23, 2025. Spiegel takes over for Allaire Primiano who served as the Director of Athletics from 2018 until 2025. Spiegel previously held the title of Associate Director of Athletics for the Express, a position he occupied since September of 2024.

"I'm incredibly humbled and excited for this opportunity to be the Director of Athletics for the Monroe Express," Spiegel said. "I was involved in helping get the Monroe - Bronx Athletics Department off the ground in 2017 when I first arrived at Monroe, and having a chance to take the lead for what has become a top-notch and highly competitive program feels like a full-circle opportunity for me."

As Director of Athletics, Spiegel will spearhead the management, coordination, and administration of the competitive NJCAA Division III Monroe University – Bronx athletics program and will supply leadership in the general administration and daily operations of the athletics department to provide a well-rounded experience for all student-athletes.

"I'm grateful to have the chance to build upon what Allaire created here in the Bronx and for the time I was able to spend working with her to prepare me to take over this role upon her departure," Spiegel said. "I'm also very thankful to have earned the trust of Luis Melendez, President Jerome, David Dimond, and the rest of the university's administration to be able to become Monroe - Bronx's Athletic Director."

Spiegel brings several years of administrative experience.

As Associate Director of Athletics for the Express, Spiegel helped with game day preparation, internal operations, transportation operations, and with external and community relations.

No stranger to the Monroe campus, Spiegel joined the Monroe University Athletics Department in July 2017 as the Sports Information Director for the Mustangs of the New Rochelle campus. Thanks to his hard work and strong leadership, Spiegel's title was elevated to Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications in April of 2022.

In 2020, Spiegel was named the first-ever NJCAA Sports Information Director of the Year. The award was announced alongside two other new NJCAA Annual Awards, including NJCAA Athletic Trainer of the Year and NJCAA Athletic Director of the Year. Spiegel also earned the Two-Year Sports Information Directors of America (2YSIDA) Sports Information Department of the Month award for May of 2021 for his work with the Monroe Mustangs and Monroe Express during the Spring 2021 season.

In his role with the Mustangs, Spiegel was responsible for working with coaches and staff to promote, support, and communicate all the accomplishments of Monroe's student-athletes and athletics programs. He also assisted in the introduction of the Monroe University Express in 2017. In addition to his role with Monroe, Spiegel also served as the Sports Information Director for NJCAA Region 15 in 2019-20. Spiegel covered several national powerhouse teams in New Rochelle, including the back-to-back National Champion Monroe Mustangs men's soccer program in 2022 and 2023.

Spiegel was also responsible for all aspects of athletic communications for the Athletics Department, as well as social media, live in-game statistics, web streaming, and other game day communications and operations activities for the Mustangs. He supervised staff, produced press releases and feature stories, produced video content, and supervised the collection and dissemination of official NJCAA and region statistics. In October 2018, Spiegel oversaw the redesign of MonroeCollegeMustangs.com. Spiegel served on three NJCAA rankings committees, including Football (2019), Division I Men's Basketball (2019-20), and Division I Baseball (2020, 2021, 2022).

Spiegel joined Monroe from Pace University, where he was Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications from 2015 to 2017. At Pace, he promoted nearly 500 student-athletes across 14 NCAA Division II programs, led social media efforts, and introduced video content such as post-game interviews and highlights. Before that, he served as Sports Information Director at Mount Saint Mary College (2013–2015), where he managed coverage for 21 athletic programs, produced content and designs, oversaw the athletics website—including a full redesign—and organized major events like the Skyline Conference Fall Festival. He began his career at SUNY New Paltz, his alma mater, as an Assistant Sports Information Director after interning there as an undergraduate.

Now, Spiegel will use his wealth of experience lead the Express as Director of Athletics.

"We have an incredible group of coaches and support staff in the Express family that I am excited to build a stronger relationship with," Spiegel said. "I also look forward to working with our phenomenal student-athletes and helping them grow as people, succeed in the classroom, and bring more championship gold to the Bronx."
