BRONX - The defending Region 15 Champion Monroe University - Bronx softball team will open the 2025 season with four games. The Express will battle NJCAA Division II Salem Community College in a doubleheader, at Pennsville Little League Field, in Carney Point, N.J. on Saturday beginning at noon. On Sunday, Monroe will travel to North East, Maryland to take on NJCAA Division II Cecil College in a doubleheader at Cecil College Softball Field at 12:00 p.m.

Eight players from last year's championship squad will return to the Express this year, highlighted by 2024 All-Region honorees
Lauren Vuorinen,
Ciara Harriott,
Sonia Rosa,
Brendalie Oliviery-Baker, and
Brianna Castellanos. Vuorinen was named the All-Region 15 Tournament MVP and was bestowed with the Region 15 Gold Glove Award during her freshman year.
A key newcomer for the Express will be
Judaiah Gourdine who will serve as a starting pitcher in the circle.
Lauren Farina will enter her third season as head coach of the program. She will be assisted by first-year assistant coaches
Ray Fabian (pitching coach) and
Camryn Brooks. Former Express Softball student-athlete
Hilda Sanchez will also help out the coaching staff as an intern.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
