BRONX - The Monroe University - Bronx women's basketball team will begin the 2024-25 season on Sunday with a matchup against NJCAA Division II Community College of Baltimore County - Essex. Tipoff at CCBC - Essex Wellness & Athletics Center is set for 2:00 p.m.
The Express are the defending three-time Region 15 and Northeast District Champions. In this year's NJCAA Division III Preseason Rankings, Monroe earned a national ranking of No. 8. The Knights won the 2022-23 NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship. Last season, they made it to the national semifinal. This year, they are ranked No. 4 in the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Preseason Rankings.

Five players from last season's regional championship team will return to Monroe this year, including All-Region 15 Honorable Mention recipient
Tiffany Newsome. Seven players will play for the Express for the first time this season, highlighted by guard
Beverly Williams.
Damel Ling will return for his second season as Express Head Women's Basketball Coach. He will once again be assisted by
Ramon Terry. Joining the coaching staff this year are assistant coaches
Deja Francis, Express women's basketball alumna
Fatima Thompson ('23), and
Malik Hamilton.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
