Leonard Pitt Joins Monroe College Express Administration as Assistant Director of Athletics

BRONX, N.Y., November 25, 2020 – Monroe College Express Director of Athletics has announced the hiring of Leonard Pitt as Monroe Express Assistant Director of Athletics. Pitt comes to the Monroe Express after most recently serving as Director of Athletics of the ASA College-Brooklyn campus.
 
"I am very excited to join the Monroe Express athletics program," said Pitt. "I look forward to using my athletic and corporate experience to impact the overall growth of our department."
 
In his new role with the Express, Pitt is tasked with overseeing recruitment and establishing recruitment strategies, as well as the athletic admissions process. Pitt will also take over responsibilities including the financial aid process, registration and student services.

"Lenny brings a wealth of experience from the various levels that he has worked with, and most recently leading the ASA College-Brooklyn campus. We look forward to the immediate impact Lenny will have in the overall department, and specifically in the critical areas of recruitment and student services."
 
Pitt spent two years at ASA College, overseeing all aspects of the Avengers' athletic program. Pitt's role included hiring coaches, scheduling, preparing budgets, promoting the department, compliance and facility management. He was charged with articulating the vision of the athletic program to align with the mission and values of ASA College.
 
During his time at ASA, Pitt maintained and evolved the department's community involvement, strategic partnerships, and service initiatives to boost program awareness and rallied support. He also developed a master recruiting plan for the department using various communication strategies.
 
Pitt spent more than 18 years coaching basketball at many different levels of competition. His most recent coaching position was with NJCAA Div. I Miami Dade College in 2010-11. That season, Pitt helped lead the team to an impressive 24-6 overall record while also fulfilling administrative duties for the men's basketball team. Pitt has also made stops at Bishop Loughlin High School, Long Island University-Brooklyn, SUNY Old Westbury and Martin Van Buren High School.
 
Pitt spent five years working for New York Sports Clubs as a corporate account executive, where he closed new business and serviced current clients to meet and exceed sales goals for the large gym and fitness conglomerate. Pitt has plenty of business experience, as he also spent three years as a business development manager with T-Mobile, where he handled commercial relationships with mobile operators throughout the world.
 
Pitt graduated from Adelphi University in 1993 with a bachelor of arts in economics and business administration. He went on to also obtain his master of arts in sports management from Adelphi in 1996. Pitt, and his wife, Jen, reside in Floral Park, N.Y., with their son, Ayden, who is a senior at Bishop Loughlin High School.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 36 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports program, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 17 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
