BRONX – Region 15 announced its 2025 Men's Volleyball All-Region team on Friday afternoon. Darren Lopez and Jeremy Rivera-Aponte were named to the All-Region second team, while Edwin Ortega earned a spot on the Region 15 All-Sportsmanship team.

The three Express honorees helped the program win nine more matches this year than the previous season, secure its first-ever berth in the Region 15 Semifinals which will take place on Saturday, and earn the No. 8 seed in the upcoming National Invitational. 

Lopez has slammed home 231 kills this year (2.63 per set), the fourth most in the country. He also leads the Express with 175 digs (1.82 per set) and has compiled 42 assists, 41 service aces, and 27 blocks this year.

Rivera-Aponte earns his second straight All-Region accolade after having another strong year for Monroe – Bronx. He slammed 221 kills (2.28 per set), compiled 138 digs (1.42 per set), and generated 48 aces with 30 blocks this year.

Ortega has made an impact during his rookie year for the Express, producing 144 kills (1.53 per set), 106 digs (1.13), and 43 blocks in 2025.

No. 4 seed Monroe – Bronx will battle top-seed Nassau Community College in the semifinal round of the Region 15 postseason on Saturday. First serve at Nassau Main Gym is set for 12:00 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY  
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
