Express Men's Volleyball Set to Compete in National Invitational This Weekend

BRONX – The Monroe University – Bronx men's volleyball team will compete in the National Invitational, on the campus of Finger Lakes Community College, on April 4-6. Monroe enters the field as the No. 8 seed and will battle ninth-seeded Passaic County Community College in the opening round on Thursday morning, at Putt Moore Gymnasium, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Live stats and live streaming video will be provided for the contest.

This marks the first time the Express are competing in the National Invitational in the young history of the program. 

It has been a successful season for the Express as they have increased its win total by nine wins (10-18) compared to last year's inaugural season. Monroe also earned a victory in the Region 15 Play-In Match over Kingsborough Community College to earn the program's first ever trip to the regional semifinals.

Leading the way for Monroe – Bronx this year have been All-Region 15 honorees Darren Lopez and Jeremy Rivera-Aponte. Lopez is averaging 2.59 kills and 1.82 digs per set, while compiling 28 blocks this year. Rivera-Aponte is generating 2.24 putdowns and 1.42 defensive bumps per frame, while producing 30 blocks in 2025.

In the regular season, Monroe – Bronx earned two hard-fought victories over the Panthers this year. The first was a five-set thriller at Monroe Athletic Complex on February 2. The second victory for the Express was a 3-1 triumph at Monsignor Scanlan Gym on March 17. 

The Panthers (8-12) have been led by Briseas Ransom this year who is generating 3.32 kills and 1.39 digs per set. Jesus Cuautle is compiling 1.65 kills and 2.05 digs per stanza.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY 
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
