No. 15 Express Women's Basketball to Open 2025-26 Season at Brookdale Classic This Weekend

BRONX – The Monroe University – Bronx women's basketball team will open the 2025-26 season with a pair of games at the Brookdale Community College Classic this weekend. The Express will battle Northern Essex Community College on Saturday at noon and then take on Middlesex College on Sunday at 2 p.m. Both games will take place at Robert J. Collins Arena in Lincroft, N.J.

Monroe – Bronx earned the ranking of No. 15 in the NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Preseason Poll. The full rankings can be seen here. Monroe aims to reach its fifth consecutive Region 15 Title game and win its fourth regional championship in five years.

The Express will have six returners this year, including Winter Smith, Beverly Williams, and Salimah Williams. Nine players will be playing for Monroe - Bronx for the first time, including Jazmyne Rios and Lea Tavarez.

Damel Ling returns for his third year as head coach of the Express. He will once again be assisted by Ramon Terry and Malik Hamilton. Joining Monroe's coaching staff will be Anfernee De La Rosa and Tyleaya Campbell.

The Express face a challenging schedule as six games will be against teams that are nationally ranked in NJCAA Division III, not to mention contests against NJCAA Division I and II opponents.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
