BRONX – The Monroe University – Bronx men's soccer team will open the 2024 season with a Region 15 matchup against Borough of Manhattan Community College, at Flowers Park, on Thursday afternoon. The action will begin at 2:30 p.m.

The Express will look to build upon its strong finish to last season when they rallied to clinch a berth in the Region 15 Championships.
Monroe will have a lot of new faces this year, as freshman goalkeeper
Raymond Romero and sophomore midfielder
Yohanne Miakatsindila will headline 20 newcomers who will compete for the Express men's soccer team this year. Only six players will return to the team from last year's squad, highlighted by midfielders
Krit Raj Maharjan and
Veron Owusu Ansah.
Monroe – Bronx alumnus and former Express champion player
Jose Hernandez ('21) will lead the coaching staff for the second year in a row, and first since being promoted from interim coach to head coach. He will once again be assisted by his former teammate on the Express and current assistant coach
Andres Lora ('22). Joining the coaching staff this year will be
Stiven Valencia,
Jovani Amador,
Juan Camilo Escudero,
Tom Kovoor, and
Hedrys Palencia ('22).

The last time these two teams met, BMCC defeated Monroe by a score of 2-0 at Pier 40 on September 7, 2023.
The Express and Panthers are each 2-2-1 against each other all-time.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
