BRONX - The Monroe College - Bronx baseball team will open the 2024 season with a pair of games at War Memorial Stadium in Hampton, Va. on Saturday. The Express will take on nationally ranked No. 6 Owens Community College at 11:00 a.m. and then battle Virginia Peninsula Community College at 3:00 p.m. On Sunday, Monroe will duel with Virginia Peninsula in a doubleheader at 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m which will take place once again at War Memorial Stadium.

Last season, Monroe - Bronx advanced to the Region 15 Championship game for the second year in a row and will look to build off that momentum.

It's a young team for the Express this season as 21 out of 36 players on the roster are freshman. Bryan Diaz ('19) will enter his first season as head coach after serving as the pitching coach the previous three seasons. He will be assisted by Anthony Gonzalez Jr. ('22) who enters his second year on the coaching staff. Like Diaz, Gonzalez Jr. was a student-athlete for the Monroe - Bronx baseball program. There are four new coaches this year for the Express. They are Luis Lopez (assistant coach), Richard Garcés (pitching coach), Richard Corbo (head developmental coach), and Frank Leger (assistant developmental coach).

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
