BRONX -Â Monroe University Express baseball star
Robert Herrera earned Men's At-Large Second Team Academic All-America recognition from College Sports Communicators (CSC). The CSC organization made the official announcement on Wednesday afternoon which can be seen
here.
Herrera is the first ever player in the Monroe – Bronx baseball program, and just the second student-athlete overall in the Express' history, to earn this prestigious honor. The first recipient was
Lisanel Rodriguez of the Monroe – Bronx women's volleyball team who was named CSC Women's At-Large Second Team All-American in June of 2024.
The CSC Academic All-America program honors college student-athletes who perform at an elite level in their chosen sport and in the classroom. CSC began the distinguished Academic All-America program in 1952. The Academic All-America honorees are voted on by College Sports Communicators throughout the continent.Â
Herrera had a historic season as he helped the Express baseball team capture the Region 15 Championship as the No. 1 seed. He was named the Region 15 Tournament MVP and earned a spot on the All-Region first team for the second year in a row. He is a two-time member of the Region 15 All-Tournament team. This past June, he was named the Region 15 Athlete of the Month for his strong performance in May.Â
Herrera earned ABCA/Rawlings NJCAA All-America third-team honors in 2025. That same year, he earned the Most Outstanding Player Award at the Monroe University – Bronx Department of Athletics' Annual Awards Dinner. Earlier in his rookie campaign, he was named the NJCAA Division III Baseball Player of the Week.Â
In 2026, Herrera produced a .387 batting average with 10 extra-base hits, while driving in 40 runs and scoring 44 times. The elite infielder had an on-base percentage of .507 and slugged .541.Â
During his illustrious career, Herrera had 115 hits, produced a batting average of .442, belted five home runs, lined 20 doubles, and drilled six triples. He slugged .623, scored 109 times, drove in 94 runs, had an on-base percentage of .549, and stole 60 bases. In the field, the Bronx resident generated 116 putouts and 114 assists.
Herrera still holds the program's all-time single season records in walks (34) and on-base percentage (.580), setting those marks in 2025.Â
In the classroom, Herrera is currently on the president's list. The sports management major earned NJCAA All-Academic second team honors and Region 15 All-Academic team recognition. Herrera is expected to receive the same academic accolades from the NJCAA and the region again later this summer.Â
