BRONX - The Monroe College - Bronx men's soccer team will kick off the 2023 season against Westchester Community College, at Flowers Park Soccer Field in New Rochelle, N.Y., on Tuesday, September 5. The contest will begin at 4:00 p.m.

Monroe will have a young team this year as 10 out of 18 players are freshman. The team captains this year will be
Lorenz Utz,
Krit Raj Maharjan,
Joel David, and
Almonder Alabead.
Former Express men's soccer goalkeeping standout
Jose Hernandez will serve as the team's interim head coach. Hernandez led the Express to their first ever Region 15 Championship and appearance in the NJCAAÂ Division III National Tournament in the spring of 2021. He will be assisted by
Cristian Cunderi, who is in his fourth year with the program and helped coach Monroe to the regional title, as well as first-year assistant coach
Mamoudou Dioubate.Â

Westchester has a young roster as well, with 13 out of 17 of its men's soccer student-athletes being rookies.
The Express are 5-1 all-time against the Vikings and have won their last four head-to-head matchups.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
