BRONX – The Monroe University – Bronx men's soccer team continued its strong play on Tuesday afternoon, earning another Region 15 win. This time, it was a 12-0 score against Orange County Community College at Flowers Park. It marked the home opener for Monroe (2-2-1, 2-0-0 Region 15).
Leading the way for the Express was rookie
Aliou Diallo who netted four goals during the game. He scored his first, and the official match-winner, less than five minutes into the contest which gave Monroe a 1-0 advantage.
All four goals he scored were during the opening half (fifth minute, ninth minute, 11
th minute, and 45
th minute).
Oumar Barry continued his strong scoring stretch for the Express, adding two more goals to give him six for the season. His first tally gave Monroe a 2-0 advantage during the seventh minute. His second was scored in the 21
st minute.
Abdoulaye Sarr scored a pair of goals as well, the first occurring in the 32
nd minute and the second taking place with 24:30 remaining in the contest.
Mamadou Top,
Maynor Palacios,
Alanzo McGrath, and
Brandon Loyola also found the back of the net for the Blue and Gold. It marked the first collegiate tallies for McGrath and Loyola and they each registered a helper as well during the afternoon.
Kadiff Wolfe produced three assists for Monroe, while Barry added two helpers of his own. It was a six-point performance for Barry who now has 14 of them so far this season.
Dominic Robinson also registered an assist for the Express, his first collegiate point.
"Very solid performance by the team today," Express Head Coach
Jose Hernandez said. "Keeping a clean sheet is always a good feeling, but we know there's still a lot more work ahead of us."
During the game, Monroe rifled 43 shots (29 on goal) and took seven corner kicks.
Nelson Acosta earned the shutout win in goal for the Blue and Gold.
For the Colts (1-2-0, 0-2-0 Region 15), Dominic Vega made 14 saves. Daviti Bulashvili stopped three shots in his 17:09 of action in the net for Orange County.
"Now it's time to turn the page and prepare for our next match," Hernandez said. "We need to make sure home-game points stay home."
That match for Monroe will be a Region 15 affair against Bronx Community College next Tuesday, September 15. The action at Flowers Park begins at 3 p.m.
