No. 11 Express Women's Basketball to Open Season Against Reigning NJCAA Division II National Champions

BRONX - The nationally ranked No. 11 Monroe College - Bronx women's basketball team will tip off the 2023-24 season with a big test on Friday, November 3, 2023. The defending two-time Region 15 Champion Express will battle the current NJCAA Division II National Champion and nationally ranked No. 1 Community College of Baltimore County- Essex, at the CCBC Essex Wellness & Athletics Center, in Baltimore, Md. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.

There will be both live stats and live streaming video so fans can follow along.

It is a completely new team for Monroe - Bronx as all 13 players on the roster will compete in their first season on its varsity team. Sophomore guard Kuari Green played on the Express' junior varsity team last season. 

Monroe - Bronx has a new coaching staff. Taking over the reigns as head women's basketball coach is Damel Ling who spent the previous season at Borough of Manhattan Community College in the same position. He will be assisted by Ramon Terry, Christopher St. Rose, and Keshawna Weston.

Not only are the Knights the reigning national champions, but they have gone a combined 71-2 over the course of the past two seasons. They made it to the semifinal round of the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in 2021-22 and earned third place overall at the conclusion of that season.

This year, the Knights will be led by eight sophomores out of 13 total players on the roster. The three returners from last year's national championship team are Kiernan Walker, Ashley Dickey, and Heather Middleton.

Monroe - Bronx is 0-3 all-time against CCBC - Essex. 

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
