Express Baseball's Bats Heat Up Late Against Mount Saint Vincent JV En Route to 14th Straight Win

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Monroe University – Bronx baseball team extended its remarkable winning streak to 14 games on Wednesday night, defeating University of Mount Saint Vincent JV by a score of 10-0 at Flowers Park. The Express' pitching staff and defense were flawless, surrendering zero runs and zero errors to secure the "Battle of the Bronx" night edition victory.

Luis Green was the story of the night on the mound for the Express (18-7), delivering a dominant performance that silenced the Dolphins' bats for nearly the entire game. Green carried a perfect game into the sixth inning, baffling hitters with precision and command throughout the evening. He finished his outing with 11 strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work, allowing only one hit and one walk to earn his fourth victory of the season and remain undefeated.

Offensively, the Express were patient before breaking the game open with a massive seven-run outburst in the bottom of the fifth. Derek Lebron led off the frame with a triple and eventually scored on an RBI triple off the bat of Pablo Aquino, in the next at-bat, to make it 2-0 in favor of Monroe. Up next was Robert Herrera who drilled an RBI double to pad the Blue and Gold's lead to 3-0.

The Express' run production in the bottom of the fifth continued as RBI singles by Adrian Nunez, David Echavarria, and Elijah Andino helped Monroe build to an 8-0 surplus.

In the home half of the sixth inning, Anthony Sanchez came up with a runner on second. He drilled the ball deep to left and over the fence for a two-run homer, his eight round-tripper of the season. That clinched the 10-0 mercy-rule win for Monroe.

The Express finished the night with 13 hits and three walks.

Herrera went 3-for-3, including a triple and a double, with two RBIs and just as many runs scored. He now has 99 career hits. Sanchez went 3-for-4 and scored twice. Andino collected two hits in three at-bats. Ramses Gonzalez drilled a double. Lebron crossed home plate two times.

In addition to the offensive production, the Express were active on the basepaths, recording four stolen bases. Andino, Abraham Joaquin Taveras, Lebron, and Herrera each swiped a bag to keep the pressure on the Dolphins' defense.

Luis Regalado started on the mound for the University of Mount Saint Vincent JV and took the loss.

Monroe will look to carry this momentum into its next matchup against Dutchess Community College, in a Region 15 doubleheader on Saturday, at Mount Saint Mary College Baseball Complex in Newburgh, N.Y. First pitch of the regional twin bill is set for noon.
