BRONX – Monroe University – Bronx men's volleyball sophomore standout
Darren Lopez has been selected as the Region 15 Men's Volleyball Athlete of the Month for February. The region made the official announcement on Friday evening which can be seen

Lopez had a strong February (and end of January when the season began) for the now nationally ranked No. 10 Express men's volleyball team.
The second year outside hitter produced double figures in kills seven times this month.
Lopez tallied 17 putdowns, nine digs, seven blocks, and two assists against then-nationally ranked No. 10 Atlantic Cape Community College on February 19. The Bronx resident generated 15 kills, eight digs, and five service aces in Monroe's thrilling five-set Region 15 win on the road against BMCC on February 21. He slammed 15 kills to help the Express defeat nationally ranked No. 5 Union County College New Jersey on January 30.
Thanks to Lopez's strong play, the Express went 3-1 in Region 15 play, and 7-5 overall, during the end of January/month of February.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
