BROOKLYN – The nationally ranked No. 9 Monroe University – Bronx men's volleyball team competed in a pair of Region 15 matches, on the campus of Kingsborough Community College, on Saturday afternoon.

The Express dropped the first match to nationally ranked No. 8 Monroe University – New Rochelle in five sets but then bounced back to defeat the host-Wave, 3-0.

Monroe – Bronx is now 7-5 overall and 3-1 in regional play.

In the match against the Mustangs (6-6, 3-1 Region 15), set scores were 17-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-19, and 15-10.

Leading the way for the Express against Monroe – New Rochelle was Frandie Martin who compiled 13 kills, four digs, and three blocks. Darren Lopez tallied 10 putdowns and four defensive bumps. Steven Francis Ouellet generated nine kills, 11 digs, and six service aces. Pedro Bello Lopez anchored the defense with a team-high 19 digs. Johnnovan Reyes added 25 assists and four attack-neutralizing bumps. David Garcia recorded 15 helpers of his own. J'Adon George slammed seven kills, while Fidel Ramirez produced six successful attacks. Rogelio Guarneros added three digs and two aces. 

In the win over the Wave (1-5, 0-3 Region 15), set scores were 25-14, 25-15, and 25-20. 

Martin added eight kills to lead the Blue and Gold. Ouellet finished with five kills, six digs, and two aces. Lopez generated four kills, eight digs, and two service victories. Garcia compiled nine assists and four aces. Reyes provided 16 assists, four digs, and a duo of service aces. Ramirez scored six kills. Aiverson Guillen racked up five defensive bumps, while Luis Vasquez chipped in on defense with three digs. George executed three putdowns.

Monroe – Bronx will host Harcum College, at Monsignor Scanlan Gym in Throggs Neck, N.Y., on Wednesday evening. First serve is set for 7 p.m.

The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
