BRONX – The #3-Seed Monroe University - Bronx men's basketball team will battle #7-Seed SUNY Sullivan Community College in the semifinal round of the Region 15 Tournament on Saturday evening. The contest will take place at Brookhaven Gymnasium, on the campus of Suffolk County Community College, at 7:30 p.m.

Fans can follow the action with live stats and live video at www.MonroeExpress.com/Coverage. Spectators  going to the game will need to pay $10 per ticket.

The winner will earn a berth in the Region 15 Championship Game which will be played on Sunday, at Brookhaven Gymnasium, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Monroe aims to earn its second straight appearance in the regional final. More information from Region 15 can be seen here.

The Express (20-8, 15-5 Region 15) secured its spot in the regional semifinal round by earning a come-from-behind victory in the region quarterfinal contest over #6-Seed Borough of Manhattan Community College, 64-53, on the campus of Bronx Community College on Wednesday evening. That same night, the Generals (12-19, 8-12 Region 15) upset #2-Seed Queensborough Community College, 65-61, on the campus of Nassau Community College.

The Express won both head-to-head matchups over the Generals during the 2025-26 regular season. The first was a convincing 102-74 decision at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium back on December 13. The second one was much tougher as Monroe had to overcome an 18-point deficit, including a 17-point disadvantage in the early stages of the second half, to earn a tight 86-80 victory over host-SUNY Sullivan at Paul Gerry Fieldhouse on January 17. 

Leading the way for the Express this season has been Steven McGriff who is generating 13.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. Jalonie Pittman has had an impressive rookie campaign for the Blue and Gold with 10.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.3 steals per contest. Paolo Avvento, Michael Samuda, Malike Smart, Caleb Dunn, Adrian Rosario, and Andi Metaliaj have also played key roles for Monroe this year and are expected to contribute during the Region 15 Semifinal Game on Saturday.

For the Generals, Tomas Hernandez is contributing with 15.6 points and 9.4 rebounds per contest. He also blocked 41 shots so far this year. Xavier Beckford is producing 13.0 points per outing.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
