BRONX – The Monroe University – Bronx women's volleyball team will return to court for the 2025 season beginning this weekend. The Express will compete in two matches on Saturday, on the campus of Dutchess Community College, against strong competition. First, they will take on nationally ranked No. 4 Finger Lakes Community College at 12 p.m, which is a rematch of last year's opening round of the NJCAA National Tournament. Then, Monroe will compete against Hudson Valley Community College at approximately 2 p.m.

On Sunday, Monroe – Bronx will host Roxbury Community College in its home opener, at American Turners New York in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx, beginning at 12 p.m.

The Express will look to build on their momentum as they are the reigning three-time district champions.

Monroe will have five returners from last year's team this season. Seven will be newcomers.
Headlining the returners will be
Aleishka Diaz who will transition to libero this year,
Julia Ramos who will be the primary setter, and
Gabriela De La Rosa who will serve as outside hitter. In 2024, Diaz was selected to the All-Region 15 first team and De La Rosa garnered All-Region 15 second team honors.
Aponte-Orta will enter her third year as head coach. She will once again be assisted by
Madelayne Perez and
Mykalee Chambers.

After a challenging opening weekend, Monroe will have two more non-region matches, both on the road. The first will be at Union College New Jersey on September 10 at 7 p.m., followed by a contest at Bergen Community College on September 17 at 6 p.m.
The 16 other regular season contests this year will be Region 15 matches, highlighted by four double duals and a pair of battles against defending regional champion and nationally ranked No. 11 Nassau Community College. The first match against the Lions will be on Saturday, October 4, on the campus of Nassau beginning at 11:00 a.m. The second contest between the two 2024 Region 15 Championship match participants will occur five days later at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium starting at 7:00 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
