Madelayne Perez joined the Monroe University - Bronx women's volleyball program as an assistant coach in July of 2023.
In addition to her role at Monroe - Bronx, Perez also serves as an assistant coach for the Legacy Volleyball Club, a position she has held since December of 2018. She assists the head coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport of volleyball. She also assesses the skills of the players, monitors players during competition and practice, as well as keeping the head coach informed of the athletes' performances.
During her first year at Monroe University - Bronx in 2023, the team earned its highest national ranking in program history at No. 4, won its first ever NJCAA Tournament match, captured its second straight district title, claimed the program's first ever Region 15 Championship, went undefeated in Region 15 play at 14-0, and defeated multiple nationally ranked teams including one in the national tournament.
In her second season in 2024, the Express captured the North Atlantic B District Championship and earned a berth in both the Region 15 Championship match and the NJCAA Tournament.
Perez has played volleyball for over 20 years. She started her volleyball journey in high school, playing for her school and club teams. The Yonkers native played three seasons of collegiate volleyball for Lehman College before graduating from there with a bachelor's degree in economics, with a specialization in business management, in June of 2003.
In May of 2015, Perez earned her master's degree in education from Manhattan University. She received her dual certification in general and special education, as well as early childhood and childhood education. Just over a year later, Perez was the recipient of the advanced certificate in bilingual education, plus early childhood and childhood education, from Manhattan University.
Perez is currently an elementary school teacher for children with disabilities in the New York City public schools.
