BRONX – The Monroe University – Bronx softball team will compete in the Region 15 Postseason, beginning on Saturday, and looks to successfully defend its Region 15 Championship.
It's a double-elimination tournament and all the games will be played on the Suffolk County Community College Brentwood Campus.
The second-seeded Express will take on third-seeded Dutchess Community College in the opening game on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The winner of that contest will take on top-seeded Suffolk County Community College at 1:30 p.m. The non-winners of the first two games will play each other in Game 3 at 4:00 p.m. The team that drops the Game 3 matchup will be eliminated.
The winners of Game 2 and 3 will play each other on Sunday in the fourth game beginning at noon on Brentwood Field. If the undefeated team wins the fourth game, they will be crowned the Region 15 Champions. If the undefeated team loses the fourth contest, then a fifth and deciding game will be played at 2:30 p.m. to determine the regional champions.

The Express (8-33, 3-3 Region 15) took three out of four games from the Falcons (10-14, 2-6 Region 15) during the regular season. All three of those wins were close ones. In the doubleheader at Flowers Park on April 8,
Brendalie Oliviery-Baker provided two walk-off singles in the same day to give Monroe the regional victories over Dutchess, 11-10 and 13-12.
On April 24, the Falcons earned a win on their home field over the Express, 8-5, but then Monroe bounced back to win a thriller in Game 2 by a score of 9-8 in eight innings.
Monroe – Bronx struggled against Suffolk County (10-16, 6-2 Region 15), dropping three out of four games during the year. The Sharks also went 3-1 over the Falcons.
Ciara Harriott is leading the way for the Express at the plate this year, producing a batting average of .416 with three home runs, nine double, and two triples. She has driven in 21 runs, scored 49 times, and stolen 26 bases this year.
Judaiah Gourdine has been a force both in the circle and at the plate for Monroe - Bronx. She has compiled five wins and eight complete games as a pitcher and struck out 51 batters. At the plate, she is tied for the program single-season record with six home runs and has drilled five doubles during the year.
Melissa Martinez has also been outstanding in the circle for the Blue and Gold, earning seven wins, pitching eight complete games, and fanning 35 hitters.
For the Falcons, Kayla Baez is hitting .480 with an on-base percentage of .541 and a slugging percentage of .707. She drilled three home runs and six doubles, while driving 20 runs and scoring 23 times, during the regular season. In the circle, she earned 10 wins while striking out 152 batters.
For the Sharks, Brooke Leach has hit three home runs this year and has a batting average of .516 with a slugging percentage of 1.125. She has driven in 34 runs, scored 26 times, and has an on-base percentage of .600.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I).
