NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Monroe University – Bronx men's volleyball team fell in its Region 15 match to national powerhouse Monroe University – New Rochelle, in straight sets, at Monroe Athletic Complex on Wednesday evening. Set scores were 25-15, 25-17, and 25-20.
The Mustangs (10-5, 2-1 Region 15) did not trail at any point in the match.
Leading the way for the Express (3-13, 1-2 Region 15) was
Jeremy Rivera-Aponte who slammed home seven kills and produced four digs.
Edwin Ortega and
Darren Lopez each scored five kills with the former providing five blocks with three digs and the latter tallying five digs and two assists.
Harold Romero anchored the defense with seven digs, while
Aiverson Guillen chipped in with three digs of his own.
David Garcia compiled nine assists and two digs for Monroe - Bronx.
Wiltor Cubas generated seven helpers and two defensive bumps. In his season debut,
Marvin Culmer provided two kills and a dig.
Mickey Mingo added three blocks, while
Erick Gutierrez recorded a dig.
For the Mustangs, Erick Concepcion slammed home 10 kills and added five bumps on defense. Glenn Gandarillas provided four kills and a match-high 10 digs. Quez Martin compiled five blocks, three kills, and a duo of digs. Santiago Valencia had a solid match with six kills, 20 assists, four digs, and two service aces. James Ross tallied four kills and three aces.
Monroe – Bronx will conclude its three-match Region 15 road trip on Saturday against Borough of Manhattan Community College. First serve at BMCC Gym is set for 11:00 a.m.

The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
