Express Baseball Drops Non-Region Game to NJCAA Division II Orange County

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – The Monroe University – Bronx baseball team suffered a setback on Wednesday afternoon, dropping its non-region game to NJCAA Division II Orange County Community College by a score of 15-6 at Colt Baseball Field.

The Colts (6-7) scored seven runs across the first two innings, with six of them being produced in the bottom of the second, to take a commanding lead.

The Express (5-10) fought back in the top of the third as Yadiel Santana drilled a two-run double to right which narrowed Orange County's lead to 7-2. Santana eventually scored on an error by the home team to pull the Blue and Gold to within four.

Monroe trailed 8-3 heading to the top of the seventh but pulled closer by scoring three runs in the frame to shrink the deficit to two runs, highlighted by an RBI single off the bat of David Echavarria. The second and third runs of the stanza were scored via a wild pitch.

Unfortunately for Monroe – Bronx, Orange County broke the game open with seven runs in the bottom of the seventh, capped off by a two-run inside-the-park home run off the bat of Brian Saldana, to pad the Colts' lead to 15-6. That ended up being the final score.

For the Express, Elijah Andino went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Anthony Sanchez and Edwin Minaya Jr. each singled, walked, and scored a run. Robert Herrera earned a base on balls and stole a bag. Adrian Nunez, Abraham Joaquin Taveras, and Jesus Guerrero each worked a walk.

On the mound, Isaul Lara Brito pitched a full shutout inning out of the bullpen for the Express and struck out one batter. He did not allow a hit or a walk.

Monroe – Bronx will host Borough of Manhattan Community College in a Region 15 contest at Roberto Clemente State Park on Friday afternoon. First pitch of the single game is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
