HERKIMER, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 12 Monroe University – Bronx women's basketball team earned an impressive victory on the road over Herkimer College, 63-57, at Varsity Gymnasium on Wednesday evening. The Express advance to 17-9, while the Generals drop to 11-9.

The Express led the game from wire to wire, jumping out to a 10-0 benefit to start the contest and staying in front the rest of the way. Sophomore
Tiffany Newsome ended the opening quarter strong for the Express by converting a layup with 1:15 left to give Monroe a 17-6 hold.
Less than two minutes into the second quarter, freshman
Winter Smith buried a 3-point shot to give the Express their largest lead of the game at 20-8.
The Generals did not go down easily as they chipped away throughout the remainder of the contest. With 1:30 remaining in the fourth quarter, Herkimer got close as sophomore Kerisa Van Olst nailed a shot from downtown to cut Monroe's lead to 58-54. Sophomore
Da'Mya Cheatham responded for the Express by converting a layup to extend the Blue and Gold's cushion to 60-54 with 57 ticks left. Herkimer fought back as a 3-point field goal by freshman Sarah Davis narrowed Monroe's advantage to just a single possession, at 60-57, with 38 seconds to go.
Sophomore
Beverly Williams came up big for the Express as she drained three key free throws during three trips to the charity stripe in the final 34 seconds of the contest, while Monroe's defense did not allow a single point the rest of the way. The Express went on to earn the 63-57 win, their second victory in a row.
Smith had an outstanding game for Monroe - Bronx with 17 points, nine steals, and seven assists – all game-highs. She also snatched two rebounds. Newsome notched a double-double with 11 points and a team-best 14 rebounds, while adding a trio of helpers. Williams provided 12 points, five steals, four rebounds, and three steals. Tymere Moorer generated seven points, five caroms, and three assists.
For the Generals, freshman Kavashia Archie had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Imani McNeil also joined the double-double club with 12 points and 15 boards. Plus, she provided four assists and blocked two shots. Sophomore Sage Geisler generated 14 points, four assists, just as many steals, and two rebounds.
Monroe - Bronx will travel to Long Island on Saturday for a Region 15 game against Suffolk County Community College. Tipoff at Brookhaven Gymnasium is set for 2:00 p.m.
