BRONX – Monroe University – Bronx women's volleyball standout Cherlialix Carmona was bestowed NJCAA All-American honors on Tuesday afternoon, earning a spot on the NJCAA All-America second team. The full announcement from the National Junior College Athletic Association can be seen here.

Carmona becomes the second student-athlete in program history to be named an NJCAA All-American. Lisanel Rodriguez was named to the NJCAA All-America first team in 2023, a year after earning NJCAA All-America Honorable Mention kudos. 

This year with Monroe, Carmona helped lead the Express to their fourth consecutive district championship and berth in nationals. The Region 15 Player of the Year set program single-season records with 339 kills and 411.0 points. Carmona set program single-match records with a .667 hitting percentage against Bronx Community College (October 18) and 14 service aces against Kingsborough Community College (October 22). For the year, she anchored the defense with 226 total digs and scored 65 service aces on the offensive end. 

The Carolina, Puerto Rico native slammed at least 20 kills in a match three times this season and produced double figures in digs during nine contests.

In addition to her Region 15 Player of the Year award, Carmona was also named to the All-Region 15 first team and earned a spot in the All-Region Tournament team. The sophomore outside hitter was named the Region 15 Division III Women's Volleyball Athlete of the Month three times. 

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
