BRONX – For the third time in a row, Cherlialix Carmona was named the Region 15 Division III Women's Volleyball Athlete of the Month.

Carmona helped lead the Express to their fourth consecutive district championship and berth in nationals. The Region 15 Player of the Year set program single-season records with 339 kills and 411.0 points. Carmona set program single-match records with a .667 hitting percentage against Bronx Community College (October 18) and 14 service aces against Kingsborough Community College (October 22). For the year, she anchored the defense with 226 total digs and scored 65 service aces on the offensive end. 

In addition to her Region 15 Player of the Year award, Carmona was also named to the All-Region 15 first team and earned a spot in the All-Region Tournament team. 

Carmona helped the Express execute competitive performances against the top teams in the country at nationals. The Carolina, Puerto Rico native compiled 11 kills and eight digs in the opening round of the NJCAA Tournament against second-seeded Minnesota West Community & Technical College on November 13. The next day, she produced nine kills and 13 digs in a consolation match at nationals against Hudson Valley Community College.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
