No. 15 Express Women's Basketball Wins Region 15 Opener Over Queensborough

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 15 Monroe University – Bronx women's basketball team opened Region 15 play and its home schedule with a convincing victory over Queensborough Community College, 95-29, at Monsignor Scanlan Gym on Thursday evening.

The Express (3-0, 1-0 Region 15) jumped out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back.

Aneyah McLamb had a strong game for Monroe with 20 points, seven rebounds, six steals, and three assists. She shot 9-for-11 from the field.

"I'm really proud of Aneyah as she once again stepped up on the glass to create offensive opportunities for herself and her teammates," Express Head Coach Damel Ling said.

Salimah Williams also had a big evening for Monroe with 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field, while snatching four boards, forcing three steals, and dishing out two assists. Beverly Williams generated 17 points, five steals, four rebounds, and three helpers. Winter Smith added 11 points, eight steals, six providers, and four caroms. Jazmyne Rios recorded six points, eight boards, and two steals.

For Queensborough (0-2, 0-1 Region 15), Samantha Devivo provided a team-high 19 points, while adding five rebounds and three steals. Amya Haley led all players with 10 boards.

Monroe – Bronx will travel to Baltimore on Saturday for a matchup against NJCAA Division I Baltimore City Community College. Tipoff at The Physical Education Center is set for 12 p.m.

"We are looking forward to a big weekend in Baltimore," Ling said. 

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
