BALTIMORE – The nationally ranked No. 15 Monroe University – Bronx women's basketball team kept its undefeated start rolling on Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 68–34 victory over NJCAA Division I Baltimore City Community College on the road. With the win, the Express improve to 4–0, continuing to showcase maturity, depth, and defensive toughness early in the season.
Monroe set the tone immediately, holding Baltimore City (0-3) to just 11 points in the first half while applying consistent defensive pressure and executing effectively in transition. The Express controlled the pace from start to finish, using ball movement and composure to build and sustain momentum.
"We got off to a great start," Express Head Coach Damel Ling said. "It's a good win on the road and another step as we continue to build towards our goals."
Salimah Williams led all scorers with 27 points on 11-of-17 shooting, knocking down two three-pointers and generating efficient offense throughout the afternoon. Beverly Williams added eight points and seven steals, attacking downhill and finishing through contact, while Winter Smith chipped in 13 points and 10 steals, orchestrating both ends of the floor and contributing across multiple phases of play.
In the paint, Aneyah McLamb delivered a strong interior showing with 12 points and six rebounds, helping Monroe control the glass and limit second-chance opportunities for the Panthers. The Express broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring Baltimore City 24–7 to put the contest firmly out of reach.
Monroe sustained its discipline and poise in the fourth quarter, closing out the road victory with confidence to remain unbeaten.
The Express return to action Sunday, November 9, traveling to face CCBC Catonsville Community College. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at the Jack Manley Wellness and Athletic Center in Catonsville, Md., as Monroe looks to continue its undefeated start.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
