BRONX – Monroe Express Softball Head Coach
Lauren Farina is pleased to announce the promotion of
Hilda Sanchez to assistant coach. Sanchez spent the previous season as the team's coaching intern.
"Softball has always been my passion, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to step into my role as assistant coach," Sanchez said. "I look forward to mentoring our athletes and helping them succeed on and off the field."
During her year helping the Monroe softball program behind the scenes, Sanchez led the Express to a berth in the Region 15 Championship Round. Nine Monroe - Bronx student-athletes were selected to the All-Region team, including five honorees who earned first-team accolades.Â
No stranger to the Monroe University - Bronx family, Sanchez was a student-athlete for the Express softball team during the 2023 and 2024 seasons, competing as both a pitcher and infielder. In both years, she landed on the NJCAA All-Academic second team and earned a spot on the Region 15 All-Academic team.
In 2024, Sanchez helped her team capture the Region 15 Championship. She earned All-Region first team honors and claimed a spot on the Region 15 All-Tournament team. Sanchez was also named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District College Division At-Large team, an accolade that honors a student-athlete's performance both in athletics and in academics. In the circle during her sophomore year, she pitched 106 innings and struck out 56 batters. At the plate in 2024, Sanchez scored 17 times, generated a batting average of .295, produced 28 hits, drove in 23 runs, drew 14 walks, and stole eight bases.Â
"We are so excited to welcomeÂ
Hilda Sanchez to our coaching staff, after an extremely successful playing career with the Express, followed by her fantastic job as a coaching intern for us last season," Farina said. "I know that Hilda will continue to make a phenomenal impact on the Express softball team as a member of our staff on and off of the field!"Â
In May of 2024, Sanchez was the recipient of the Express softball team's Pitcher of the Year Award at the Monroe Express Athletic Department's Annual Awards Ceremony.
The Monroe – Bronx softball team will begin the regular season in March. More details will be announced soon.
