No. 15 Express Women's Basketball Surges to Victory Over Middlesex

LINCROFT, N.J. – The nationally ranked No. 15  Monroe University – Bronx women's basketball team continued its strong start to the 2025–26 campaign, cruising to a 62–36 victory over NJCAA Division II Middlesex College on Sunday afternoon at Robert J. Collins Arena during the second day of the Brookdale Classic. 
 
With the win, the Express improve to 2–0, capping off an impressive opening weekend where they showcased depth, energy, and defensive dominance.

"Good start to the season," Express Head Coach Damel Ling said. "Overall, it was a great team effort."
 
Monroe's defense was the story of the afternoon, holding Middlesex (1-1) to just two points in the second quarter and 22.6 percent shooting overall. The Express also controlled the glass with 47 rebounds, forced 29 turnovers, and converted them into 20 points off turnovers.

Sophomore standout Salimah Williams led the charge with a game-high 20 points on 8-of-17 shooting, including four three-pointers, while also collecting seven rebounds, five steals, and a block. Beverly Williams followed with 16 points and six steals, providing a spark on both ends of the court. Inside, Aneyah McLamb dominated the paint, posting a double-double with 11 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, and two blocks.
 
Winter Smith stuffed the stat sheet with four points, seven assists, nine steals, and seven rebounds, setting the tone defensively and facilitating the offense. Amira McCleod chipped in five points, including a big three-pointer in the fourth quarter, while Jazmyne Rios added four points and six rebounds off the bench.
 
The Express sealed the win with a 26-point fourth quarter, showcasing their balance and composure down the stretch to extend their lead to as many as 27 points late in the game.
 
Monroe – Bronx opens the home schedule on Thursday, November 6, against Queensborough Community College at Monsignor Scanlan High School. The Region 15 opener is set for 5:30 p.m. as the Express look to keep their unbeaten streak alive.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
