Express Men's Soccer Earns Region 15 Win Over Rockland; Jason Chunchi Extends Program's All-Time Single-Season Record for Assists

SUFFERN, N.Y. – The Monroe University – Bronx men's soccer team delivered one of its most complete performances of the season, cruising to an 8-0 Region 15 victory over Rockland Community College (0-11-0, 0-11-0 Region 15) on Thursday afternoon. The match took place on Rockland's soccer field. With the win, the Express improve to 7-1-1 in region play and 7-3-1 overall, extending their dominant run with another explosive offensive showing and a lockdown defensive effort.

"Another win to keep building confidence towards our big game on Saturday against Nassau," Express Head Coach Jose Hernandez said. "We are already thinking about our next game since we want to finish as high as possible in the standings."

From the opening kickoff, Monroe dictated the pace and pinned Rockland in its own half. The Express ripped 21 shots in the first 45 minutes and finally broke through in the 32nd minute when Brando Tuba buried a low shot off a pass from Alejandro Aguilar to make it 1-0. Just 1:04 later, Jason Chunchi capitalized on a defensive miscue and calmly finished off a feed from Kevin Chipantiza to double the lead. Monroe wasn't done—two minutes after that, Chipantiza scored off a setup from Salim Anas to push the advantage to 3-0 heading into halftime.

The second half was even more lopsided. Anas scored in the 49th minute to keep the momentum rolling. Abdoulaye Sarr added a strong effort for the goal in the 65th, assisted by Chunchi. That marked Chunchi's 11th assist of the season which extends the program's all-time single-season record for assists. Chrismonor Eugene ('24) tallied nine helpers for the Blue and Gold last season.

Only 44 seconds later, Aguilar blasted home Monroe's sixth goal with Chipantiza earning his second assist of the afternoon. The Express continued attacking relentlessly, and in the 68th minute, Chunchi threaded a perfect pass to Mamadou Top, who slotted it home. That increased Chunchi's program single-season record to 12 helpers. Sarr struck again just two minutes later off a feed from Chipantiza, sealing the 8-0 rout.

Chunchi finished with a goal and two assists. Anas tallied a goal and one assist, while Sarr scored twice. Chipantiza provided a goal and a trio of helpers. Monroe spread the offense across the lineup.

Defensively, the Express were just as impressive. Monroe outshot Rockland 45-7 overall—including a 19-3 advantage in shots on goal—and never allowed the hosts to find any rhythm. Goalkeepers Kimany Arzu and Angel Grijalva combined for the clean sheet, with Arzu earning the win.

The Express will now return home for another crucial Region 15 showdown on Saturday at 1 p.m., when they host Nassau Community College at Flowers Park in New Rochelle, N.Y.
