FALL RIVER, Mass. – The Monroe University – Bronx men's basketball team earned a hard-fought victory on the road over Bristol Community College, 86-80, at Taunton Campus Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
The Express (11-7) built a 37-27 lead over the Bayhawks (9-5) after 20 minutes of play. The home team had the edge in scoring during the second half, 53-49, but the Express were able to hang on and clinch the win.
"We showed great effort, energy, and executed down the stretch to close the game," Express Head Coach
Chris Neely said.
Leading the way for the Monroe was freshman
Dimitre Alston who netted 30 points, on 10-for-15 shooting from the field and a perfect 10-for-10 from the charity stripe, while grabbing seven rebounds. Sophomore
Jayden Gamory provided 10 points, a trio of assists, and just as many steals.
Freshman
Moustapha Sarr added nine points and four steals off the bench for the Express. Classmate
Paolo Avvento generated six points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Rookie
Malike Smart scored eight points, snatched a duo of caroms, delivered a pair of assists, and collected just as many steals.

Jayquan Lee each brought down six boards, with the former scoring eight points and the latter netting five. Williams also blocked one shot to put him at 41 blocks for his career which is a program all-time record. The previous record was held by both
Abubakar Kromah (2022-2024) and Dashawn Hines (2018-19 season) who each blocked 40 shots during their careers.
Monroe – Bronx will host Borough of Manhattan Community College in a Region 15 contest on Tuesday evening. Tipoff at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium is set for 8:00 p.m.

The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
