Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Big Night By Chrismonor Eugene Leads No. 10 Express Men's Soccer to Dominating Region 15 Win Over Bronx CC

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 10 Monroe University – Bronx men's soccer team earned a convincing Region 15 victory over Bronx Community College, 9-2, at Flowers Park on Tuesday evening. The Express bump their overall and regional record to 4-0, while the Broncos fall to 1-4 for the year and in Region 15 play.

Leading the way for the Express was sophomore forward Chrismonor Eugene who netted three goals and provided a pair of assists during the evening.

Monroe had a 3-2 lead after 45 minutes of play, but then outscored Bronx 6-0 in the second half on its way to the dominating victory. The Express never trailed at any point in the match. After the Blue and Gold scored the first two goals of the evening, Bronx managed to pull to within one twice in the opening half but then Monroe's 6-0 blitz in the second period put the match out of reach for the Broncos.

"Overall, the team is working really hard and we're becoming stronger together as a family on and off the pitch," Express Head Men's Soccer Coach Jose Hernandez said.

Also helping Monroe was freshman midfielder Dieuvenson Leger who found the back of the net twice, including the official match-winning goal in the 17th minute, and tallied an assist. Sophomore defender Christian Trujillo added two helpers and scored a goal. Rookie midfielder Mike Suazo and classmate Naim Bakere each scored their first goal of their collegiate careers. Second-year defender Clermens Devariste added his first collegiate assist on Monroe's ninth goal of the night during the 84th minute.

For the match, Monroe outshot Bronx 29-16, including 18-7 in shots on goal. The Express also had the heavy advantage in corner kicks, 14-2.

In net, freshman goalkeeper Dwayne Brown made five saves to earn the victory for Monroe. His counterpart Edwin Martinez made nine saves for the Broncos.

Sophomore Ashraf Abubakar scored both of Bronx's goals.

The Express will continue Region 15 play on Saturday with a road match at Queensborough Community College. The action will begin at 12:00 p.m.
