BAYSIDE, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 10 Monroe University – Bronx men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season to Region 15 rival Queensborough Community College, 2-1, at QCC Field on Saturday afternoon. The Express drop to 4-1-0 overall and in the region, while the Tigers advance to 3-2-1 for the season and against Region 15 opponents.
Monroe – Bronx struggled in the first half by being outscored 2-0 during the first 45 minutes of the contest. They were outshot 12-10 (9-3 in shots on goal) during the opening stanza. However, the Blue and Gold sliced the deficit in half late in the match thanks to sophomore forward
Chrismonor Eugene burying his sixth goal of the season during the 85
th minute to pull the Express to within 2-1. Freshman defender
Jonathan Lima was credited with the assist on the play.
Monroe had the better of play in the second half, outshooting the opposition 13-7 (4-3 in shots on target) during the final 45 minutes of competition. However, after the Express scored their goal they could not generate another shot during the closing 5:31 of play and Queensborough went on to earn the hard-fought one-goal victory.
During the first half, freshman midfielder Alexis Cuji got Queensborough on the board with a goal during the ninth minute. The official match-winning tally came from rookie forward Juan Rambal with 3:50 left in the opening period which gave the Tigers a 2-0 benefit. Rambal, sophomore midfielder Kevin Uribe, and rookie defender Ramarni Dennis each recorded an assist for Queensborough during the contest.
For the afternoon, the Express had an edge in general shots, 23-19. However, the Tigers earned the advantage in shots that were on target, 12-7. Monroe doubled up Queensborough in corner kicks, 6-3.

Angel Grijalva made eight saves for the Express. Classmate
Dwayne Brown stopped two shots in relief. For the Tigers, sophomore goalkeeper Anthony Bardales made six saves to earn the victory between the posts.
Monroe – Bronx continues Region 15 play on Tuesday with a home match against LaGuardia Community College. The action at Flowers Park begins at 3:00 p.m.
