Adrian Quezada Pitches No Hitter to Help Express Baseball Win Region 15 Game Over Bronx Community College

BRONX – The Monroe College – Bronx baseball team earned a historic Region 15 victory over Bronx Community College, 32-0, at Ohio Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Sophomore pitcher Adrian Quezada pitched a no-hitter for the Express, as he struck out 13 batters and gave up just two walks to earn the complete-game victory. It marks the second no-hitter by an Express pitcher this year. Sophomore Jayden Moya pitched the previous no-hitter back on March 30 when Monroe – Bronx defeated Nassau Community College on the road.

"Outstanding job by Adrian and our offense," Express Head Baseball Coach Bryan Diaz said.

The Express (15-18, 12-5 Region 15) came storming out of the gate early, scoring four runs in the top of the first. Sophomore catcher Hecxiel Perez opened the scoring with a two-run double. Later in the inning, freshman right fielder Edwin Minaya Jr. slapped a two-run single to extend Monroe's lead to 4-0.

The Blue and Gold continued its momentum in the second inning, scoring eight runs in the frame. The highlights during Monroe's big inning were an RBI single each by Perez, sophomore first baseman Camilo Rodriguez, and second-year center fielder Antwon Beverly.

Monroe – Bronx scored a run in the fourth and then added three more in the fifth to pad its cushion to 16-0. Perez once again produced an RBI single during the Express' productive fifth inning.

The sixth inning was a gigantic one for Monroe's bats as 13 runs were scored during the frame. In the stanza, Rodriguez, Beverly, and freshman left fielder Jeanpaul Alicea Albertorio each drew a walk with the bases loaded to earn an RBI. Freshman designated hitter Alfredo Jimenez Jr. tallied an RBI single, while freshman third baseman Giovanny Flores drove in a run with a double. Minaya Jr. drove in two runs with a single.

In the top of the seventh, Flores produced an RBI single and Rodriguez drove in two runs courtesy of a double to increase Monroe's benefit to 32-0.

In the bottom of the seventh, Quezada got the final out on a force out at second base to clinch the no-hitter and the Region 15 victory for the Express over the Broncos (8-16, 6-11 Region 15).

For Monroe at the plate, freshman shortstop Yan Ortiz Torres scored six runs, drew four walks, stole five bases, and picked up an RBI. Flores also scored six runs, while drawing three walks, earning two runs batted in, and stealing a duo of bases. Perez went 3-for-4, picked up five RBIs, scored four runs, earned a base on balls, and stole a base. Rodriguez added four RBIs, scored just as many times, drew three walks, and picked up a stolen base. Jimenez Jr. scored four times, drove in a pair of runs, and walked twice. Minaya Jr. produced six runs batted in, scored twice, and stole a base.

Also helping the Express was rookie second baseman Joeliel Cruz who singled, drove in a run, crossed home plate twice, drew a walk, and stole a base. Alicea Albertorio had two hits, scored twice, and earned a base on balls. Beverly scored two runs, hit a pair of singles, drew two walks, stole a pair of bases, and drove in two runs.
