Express Men's Volleyball Drops Region 15 Match to Monroe - New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Monroe College – Bronx men's volleyball team suffered a Region 15 loss to reigning national runner-up Monroe College – New Rochelle, in straight sets, at the Monroe Athletic Complex on Thursday evening. Set scores were 25-10, 25-7, and 25-10. The Express were the official home team in the contest.

The Mustangs (16-0, 4-0 Region 15) led from wire to wire in each of the first two sets. The Express (0-14, 0-3 Region 15) got off to a good start in the third stanza, as a kill by freshman middle blocker Marvin Culmer gave the Blue and Gold a 1-0 advantage. After Monroe – New Rochelle tied it up, the Express took advantage of an error by the opposing team to regain the lead at 2-1. However, the Mustangs went on a 12-2 to take a commanding lead they would not surrender on their way to the regional win.

Leading the way for the Express was Culmer who slammed home four kills, produced a dig, and recorded a block. First-year middle blocker Jeremy Rivera-Aponte generated three digs, two blocks, and a kill. Freshman outside hitter Juan Arias chipped in with two digs and a kill. First-year setter Wiltor Cubas had a team-high seven assists to go along with a dig.

For the Mustangs, sophomore outside hitter Arnau Riu Giralt tallied six kills, three digs, just as many service aces, and a block.

Monroe – Bronx will host Bryant & Stratton College, at the Monroe Athletic Complex, on Saturday morning. First serve is set for 10:00 a.m.
