BRONX, N.Y. – The Monroe College – Bronx baseball team earned a convincing Region 15 victory over Nassau Community College, 9-3, at Roberto Clemente State Park on Tuesday afternoon. The Express are now 3-0 in Region 15 play (5-11 overall) and have won five of their last six games.
Leading the way for Monroe – Bronx was sophomore pitcher
Adrian Quezada who struck out 15 batters in eight shutout innings pitched to earn his second victory on the mound this season.
"It was a dominating pitching performance by Adrian (Quezada)," Express Head Baseball Coach

Hecxiel Perez scored the first run thanks to a throwing error on the mound after freshman third baseman
Camilo Rodriguez hit an infield single. First-year designated hitter
Jayden Moya continued the team's momentum by hitting a sacrifice fly to right which scored Rodriguez from third to put the home team up by two runs. With the bases loaded, sophomore center fielder
Bryant Quezada was hit by a pitch to score freshman third baseman
Giovanny Flores and pad Monroe's lead to 3-0.
In the bottom of the third, Monroe had runners on the corners and nobody out. Flores drilled an RBI single to center which allowed Perez to score his second run of the game and make it 4-0 in favor of the Blue and Gold.
The Express broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth with four runs, all with two outs. It began with the bases loaded and Perez was hit by a pitch to score Flores from third. Then, Rodriguez lined a single down the right-field line to score both freshman right fielder
Alfredo Jimenez Jr. and
Bryant Quezada to inflate Monroe's cushion to 7-0. After that, Flores delivered another run-scoring single to send Perez home and extend the Express' advantage to 8-0.
In the bottom of the seventh, rookie shortstop
Yan Ortiz Torres scored from third on a wild pitch to make it 9-0 in favor of Monroe.
The Lions (2-3, 2-1 Region 15) scored three runs in the top of the ninth to pull closer, but it was not enough as the Express snatched the key Region 15 victory.
For Monroe – Bronx, Flores went 3-for-4. Ortiz Torres stole three bases, scored twice, hit a single, and drew a walk. Perez produced a single and earned two walks.
Bryant Quezada worked a base on balls and stole a base. Rodriguez reached first with a walk. Sophomore left fielder
Gregory Espinal stole a base.
Monroe – Bronx will take on NJCAA Division II Orange County for the second time this week on Thursday afternoon at Colt Baseball Field. First pitch is at 3:30 p.m.

The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I).
