Basketball Teams to Compete in Region 15 Quarterfinals on Tuesday

BRONX - The Monroe College - Bronx women's and men's basketball teams will be participating in the quarterfinal round of the Region 15 Tournament at the Monroe Athletic Complex, up in New Rochelle, N.Y., on Tuesday evening. The No. 4-seeded Express women's basketball team will battle fifth-seeded Borough of Manhattan Community College at 5:30 p.m., followed by the No. 2-seeded Express men's basketball program taking on seventh-seeded Queensborough Community College at 7:30 p.m.

The winner of each game will advance to the regional semifinals which will take place on the campus of Kingsborough Community College on Saturday afternoon.

The Express women's team (15-16) will be led by All-Region first-team honoree Daysiah Smith who is averaging 21.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.6 steals, and 4.4 assists per game this season.

For the Panthers (7-14) sophomore guard Emily Kennedy is producing 19.8 points per game, on 45.7% shooting from the field, while grabbing 9.3 rebounds, forcing 5.6 steals, and delivering 5.5 assists per contest. She earned a spot on the Region 15 second team this season. 

Monroe - Bronx won both head-to-head contests against BMCC during the regular season. 

For the men, second-year forward Abubakar Kromah is leading the Express (19-10) with 18.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. The All-Region first-team member has produced 14 double-doubles so far this season.

For Queensborough (7-15), freshman forward Williams Guzman is generating 11.8 points per outing, shooting 52.5% from the field, and grabbing 8.3 rebounds per game this year. 

The Express swept the regular season series against the Tigers and will look to make it 3-0 for the season after tonight's game.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
