Express Baseball Drops Two at Delaware Tech.

GEORGETOWN, Del. – The Monroe College – Bronx baseball team dropped a pair of games at NJCAA Division II Delaware Technical & Community College - Terry, 5-0, and 19-11, at the Delaware Tech. Baseball Field on Saturday afternoon.
 
The opening game was a pitchers' duel, as the two teams were scoreless heading into the bottom of the sixth. However, Delaware Tech. scored five runs in the frame to put Monroe in a whole it could not get out of.
 
Sophomore pitcher Adrian Quezada had a strong game for the Express on the mound as he gave up zero earned runs and struck out nine batters in 5.2 innings pitched.
 
Leading the lineup for Monroe in game one was rookie outfielder Alfredo Jimenez Jr. who drilled a double and drew a walk. Rookie second baseman Jeanpaul Alicea Albertorio and first-year infielder Yan Ortiz Torres each produced a single and stole a base. Freshman outfielder Jeremy Columna and second-year infielder Camilo Rodriguez each earned a base on balls.
 
In game two, the Express fell behind 14-0 after three innings. Monroe - Bronx got one run back in the top of the fourth and then exploded for eight runs in the top of the fifth to pull to within five, at 14-9. Then, the Express added another run in the sixth. However, Delaware Tech. pushed across five runs in the bottom of the sixth to inflate its cushion to 19-10. Monroe added one more run in the seventh, but it was not enough as Delaware Tech. earned the sweep.
 
Sophomore center fielder Bryant Quezada had a big game for the Express by going 3-for-4 with a walk and a run scored. Freshman infielder Jayden Moya produced two singles, two runs batted in, and crossed home plate twice. Second-year designated hitter Hecxiel Perez scored twice, drove in a run, earned a walk, and stole a base. Jimenez Jr. had a hit and two RBIs.
 
Sophomore outfielder Gregory Espinal provided two hits, including a triple, and picked up a run batted in for Monroe. Alicea Albertorio drilled a double, scored three runs, drove in two, and added a pair of walks. Freshman catcher Yadiel Santana also doubled, scored a run, had an RBI, and drew a walk. Minaya Jr. produced a two-run single and came around to score. Ortiz Torres also scored a run for Monroe. 
 
Monroe – Bronx will travel to Maryland on Saturday, March 2, for a doubleheader at NJCAA Division II Cecil College. First pitch at Brockell Baseball Field is set for 12:00 p.m.

The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
