Express Baseball Drops Two Games to NJCAA Division II Montgomery College - Rockville

ROCKVILLE, Md. - The Monroe College - Bronx baseball team dropped a pair of games to NJCAA Division II Montgomery College – Rockville, 12-2 and 12-0, at the MCC Baseball Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Express' (0-8) two runs during the afternoon occurred during the top of the sixth inning of game one. Freshman infielder Jayden Moya belted a single to right that scored second-year center fielder Bryant Quezada to put the Express on the board. Then, sophomore catcher Hecxiel Perez scored on an infield single off the bat of freshman infielder Edwin Minaya Jr. to shrink the Express' deficit to 8-2.

It was not enough, as Montgomery (6-3) scored four runs in the very first inning to take the lead for good on its way to the 12-2 victory in game one.

For the Express, Bryant Quezada lined a double during the game. Perez and second-year outfielder Gregory Espinal each went 2-for-3. Freshman infielder Yan Ortiz Torres and rookie second baseman Jeanpaul Alicea Albertorio each produced a single, with the latter stealing a base.

For Montgomery, sophomore pitcher Sommers Turner gave up no runs in four innings pitched to pick up the win.

In game two, rookie pitcher Jacob Cotto got the start for the Express on the mound and retired Montgomery's lineup in the first two innings without giving up a hit or a run. However, the Raptors' bats exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the third to take a commanding lead that lasted for the remainder of the game. Montgomery went on to earn the sweep.

For the Express, Espinal produced a hit and stole a base. Moya and freshman third baseman Giovanny Flores each singled. Rookie catcher Yadiel Santana and second-year infielder Adrian Quezada each drew a walk.

For the Raptors, second-year pitcher Camden Sharkey struck out eight batters in five innings pitched to earn the shutout win on the mound.
