Express Basketball Teams to Conclude Regular Season Against Queensborough on Thursday

BRONX - The Monroe College - Bronx basketball teams will play the final games of the regular season against Region 15 rival-Queensborough Community College on Thursday. The women will tipoff at 5:30 p.m., while the men will start at 7:30 p.m. The games will take place at RFK Gymnasium. 

Both game will be streaming on Queensborough's YouTube page which can be accessed here. There will also be live stats for the respective games at MonroeExpress.com/WBBLiveStats and MonroeExpress/MBBLiveStats.

The Express women's basketball team has locked up the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Region 15 Championships and will have home-court advantage in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday, February 27. If the Monroe men's team (18-10, 12-5 Region 15) wins its regular-season finale against Queensborough, they will clinch the No. 2 seed in the regional tournament. 

Both Express teams earned come-from-behind thrilling victories in overtime against Queensborough back on November 9 at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium. The women's team was victorious 86-78, while the men's program won by a score of 70-65.

The Tigers women's and men's basketball teams have each clinched a berth in the upcoming Region 15 Championships. 

Leading the way for the Express women's basketball team this season has been freshman guard Daysiah Smith who is scoring 21.4 points, grabbing 5.3 rebounds, forcing 4.6 steals, and dishing out 4.4 assists per game. On the men's side for Monroe, sophomore forward Abubakar Kromah is generating 18.8 points, 10.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.7 steals per contest.

On the women's side for the Tigers (6-13, 5-11 Region 15), sophomore forward Nayla Walters is netting 14.0 points and grabbing 18.0 rebounds per game. For the Queensborough men (7-14, 7-10 Region 15), freshman forward Williams Guzman is producing 11.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. 

The Monroe - Bronx women's team is 9-1 all time against Queensborough. The Express men's program is 5-6 in head-to-head matchups against the Tigers. 

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
