BRONX – On Thursday, February 15, the Monroe College - Bronx basketball teams will take on Nassau Community College in a Region 15 doubleheader with the first game beginning at 5:30 p.m. for the women and 7:30 p.m. for the men.

The women's team is looking to come away with another big win against the nationally ranked No. 10 Lions as in their last matchup, Monroe walked away with a 66-36 victory on November 30 at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium.
Freshman guard Daysiah Smith is Monroe's leading scorer, as she is averaging 21.6 points per game this year. The back-to-back Express Student-Athlete of the Week, sophomore guard Tiffany Newsome, is scoring 7.2 points and grabbing 7.0 rebounds per game this season.
As for the men, the Express have the rhythm going as they are on an eight-game winning game. Monroe has an 18-9 record overall and 12-4 in Region 15 play, good for second place in the regional standings.
The Express won the first head-to-head matchup over the Lions, 68-54, back on November 30 at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium. Monroe - Bronx is fresh off a victory over then-nationally ranked No. 11 Dutchess Community College, 77-72, at Falcon Hall Gymnasium this past Saturday, February 10, as sophomore forward Kromah Abubakar Kromah posted a double- double scoring 20 points with 13 boards.
Second-year guard Jaream Eason is someone to keep an eye on as he is the reigning Monroe Express Student-Athlete of the Week. He is an efficient threat on the court, helping his team get victories on the road and at home. His energy and basketball style of play is big, especially at the end of games when they are needed the most.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
