THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Monroe College – Bronx men's basketball team was victorious in its Region 15 contest over LaGuardia Community College, 79-52, at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium on Thursday evening. The Express have now won four consecutive region games and bump their Region 15 record to 8-4 (14-9 overall). The Red Hawks drop to 3-12 in regional games and 3-16 for the season.
Monroe – Bronx fell behind 5-2 early, but then scored nine straight points, capped off by a jump shot from sophomore guard
Jaream Eason to give the Blue and Gold the lead for good, at 11-5. The Express went up by as many as 13 in the first half before taking a 34-25 benefit into the break.
In the second stanza, the Express continued to inflate its cushion as back-to-back layups by sophomore forward
Abubakar Kromah increased the Blue and Gold's advantage to 56-32 with 12:18 remaining in regulation time. Monroe padded its lead all the way up to 31 before claiming the regional victory by a score of 79-52.
For the evening, the Express shot 50.7% from the field (34-for-67), while holding the opposition to just 32.7% shooting from the floor (18-for-55).
Leading the way for Monroe was Kromah who registered a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, and shot 7-for-14 from the floor in the process, while dishing out four assists. Eason almost earned his second-straight double-double by scoring nine points and bringing down 10 boards. He also provided two assists. Sophomore guard
Derrick Simpson tallied 11 points off the bench, while securing three rebounds. Classmate
Vashaun Wallace generated four points, six assists, five rebounds, and a trio of steals.
For LaGuardia, sophomore guard Arthur Dukes scored a game-high 31 points, while adding three rebounds, just as many steals, and a pair of assists. Second-year forward Ahmad Sackor gathered 10 rebounds, scored four points, blocked three shots, and collected a steal.
Monroe – Bronx will continue its Region 15 homestand on Saturday afternoon against Bronx Community College. Tipoff at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium is set for 3:30 p.m.

The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
