Five Express Men's Soccer Players Bestowed All-Region Accolades

BRONX – The Region 15 announced the Men's Soccer All-Region team on Monday afternoon and Monroe University – Bronx is strongly featured on the list. Sophomore forward Chrismonor Eugene and rookie midfielder Xcaret Gonzalez each qualified for the All-Region first team. Freshman defender Jonathan Lima was selected to the All-Region second team. Freshman goalkeeper Raymond Romero earned All-Region Honorable Mention status. Classmate Naim Bakere was selected to the Region 15 All-Sportsmanship team. 
 
The five honorees led the Express to a 9-4-3 overall record and the third seed in the Region 15 Championships (8-2-2 record in the region). Monroe – Bronx earned a national ranking of No. 10 in the NJCAA Division III Men's Soccer National Poll. 
 
Eugene scored 10 goals and tallied nine assists during the season. His nine assists are the most in a single season in program history. One of his 10 goals was a match-winner which occurred against Rockland Community College on September 26. Eugene was selected as the NJCAA Division III National Offensive Player of the Week on October 9.
 
Gonzalez generated six goals and four assists during the season. He netted four goals against LaGuardia Community College, back on September 24, which tied a program single-match goal-scoring record. 
 
Lima had a strong year offensively and defensively for the Express. He tallied five goals and three assists in 2024. Lima scored a hat trick against Orange County Community College on September 10 and scored the game-winning goal at nationally ranked No. 6 Ulster County Community College on September 14.  
 
Romero went 4-0-2 during the year and produced two shutouts. The Bronx resident stopped all six shots he faced to help Monroe earn a 1-0 win over Borough of Manhattan Community College on September 5. He also made nine saves to pick up a shutout in the quarterfinal round of the Region 15 Championships against Suffolk County Community College.
 
Bakere scored three goals during the season, including the tally which led Monroe – Bronx to a 1-0 victory over Georgian Court JV on September 25. 
 
Monroe – Bronx will return to the pitch in September of 2025.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
